Why We Need To Look at Spirituality as Science

The nature around us has answers to both science and spirituality.

Imagine yourself standing on a shoreline. On your left side is the vast expanse of the ocean. How far does the ocean extend? How deep is it? What is there at its deepest place? Where does it meet the sky? The search for these answers can fill one with wonder. On the right side is the green land full of trees, the abundance of fruits and flowers in all shades of colors, animals, birds, houses, and people. The shoreline is shifting to the right, when the tide comes in, and to the left, exposing the sandy earth when the tide goes out. If you are totally absorbed in the situation, this is a mesmerizing experience! It all starts with ‘wonder’!

Everything that you may see around you is ‘science’. All that is measurable, repeatable, reproducible phenomena. It is something that you can experience. It fills you with wonder to find them, understand them and innovate with them. But that is not all! Somewhere along the line of these experiences, there are also moments of wonder about how it all began. Where did it all begin? Since how long have these interesting things been happening around you? And what is really making it all happen around you?

When the quest for answers to such questions begin, there is more awareness of the world around you. It is becoming conscious of the deeper aspect of things around you. For example, a tree is not just a machine producing leaves, flowers, and fruits. It has a certain energy that is making it happen. There is a connection between this tree and the other trees around it. The connections extend beyond the group of trees, to everything around them. The awareness or being conscious of all these workings may happen in many layers of understanding in the mind.

‘Science’, the understanding part of the world now leads to ‘consciousness’.  Is all the science that you know and understand through your sensory organs, also present in big storage or a big sphere of consciousness?

Whether the answer to this question is ‘yes’ or ‘no’, there is an urge to find out the truth.  Now, your consciousness shifts inwards. Are you just a body of machines that pump air, blood, and food into the system? Or are you something more than that? And who is doing all this thinking? So, ‘science’ has evolved into ‘awareness’ and is leading on to ‘consciousness’.

There are several layers of consciousness: from what is stored in the mind at the subconscious level from your experiences to the awareness at the present state to the level of super-consciousness, which contains everything known and yet to be known. This expansion is based on the sense of wonder. It puts together all science into One. It represents the essence of your existence.

Your spirituality.
